UNDERSTANDING COMPATIBILITY
We calculate each person's Life Path number by summing all digits of their date of birth and reducing to a single digit (1–9). In Vedic numerology, each number is ruled by a planet (Sun, Moon, Jupiter, etc.). The compatibility score is derived from the planetary friendship matrix — whether the two ruling planets are friends, neutral, or enemies in the Vedic tradition.
This calculator uses Vedic (Indian) numerology, which maps numbers 1–9 to the Navagraha — the nine ruling planets of Jyotish. The Life Path is calculated by reducing the full date of birth (day + month + year) to a single digit. This differs from Western numerology which uses Pythagorean or Chaldean name-based systems as primary.

In Jyotish (Vedic astrology/numerology), each planet has natural friendships and enmities with other planets based on thousands of years of observation. For example, Sun (1) and Moon (2) are friends — these numbers tend to harmonize naturally. Saturn (8) and Sun (1) are enemies — these numbers must consciously work to understand each other's very different energies.
