HOW IT WORKS
01
Sum every digit in your date of birth and reduce to a single digit 1–9. This is your Mulank — the foundational vibration of your life.
02
Each number maps to one of the nine Vedic planets (Navagraha): Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, Rahu, Ketu. Your number reveals your planetary ruler.
03
The Vedic tradition defines natural friendships and enmities between planets. We score the pairing based on whether your ruling planets are allies, neutral, or adversaries across the celestial grid.
UNDERSTANDING COMPATIBILITY
We calculate each person's Life Path number by summing all digits of their date of birth and reducing to a single digit (1–9). In Vedic numerology, each number is ruled by a planet (Sun, Moon, Jupiter, etc.). The compatibility score is derived from the planetary friendship matrix — whether the two ruling planets are friends, neutral, or enemies in the Vedic tradition.
This calculator uses Vedic (Indian) numerology, which maps numbers 1–9 to the Navagraha — the nine ruling planets of Jyotish. The Life Path is calculated by reducing the full date of birth (day + month + year) to a single digit. This differs from Western numerology which uses Pythagorean or Chaldean name-based systems as primary.
No. A challenging or very challenging planetary pairing often indicates a transformative relationship — one with the highest potential for personal growth. Many significant relationships have 'difficult' planetary combinations. The score indicates the nature of the energy, not whether the relationship is good or bad.
In Jyotish (Vedic astrology/numerology), each planet has natural friendships and enmities with other planets based on thousands of years of observation. For example, Sun (1) and Moon (2) are friends — these numbers tend to harmonize naturally. Saturn (8) and Sun (1) are enemies — these numbers must consciously work to understand each other's very different energies.
This tool gives a numerological perspective on compatibility, widely used in Indian matchmaking alongside Kundali (birth chart) matching. A high score suggests natural planetary harmony. For marriage decisions, we recommend combining this with a full consultation with a professional numerologist who can read the complete birth charts of both individuals.
The Lo Shu Grid is a 3×3 magic square (numbers 1–9 arranged so all rows/columns/diagonals sum to 15) used in Indian and Chinese numerology to map personality, strengths, and missing energy centers. This compatibility calculator uses the underlying planetary data from the same Vedic tradition — the planet-number mappings are foundational to both systems.
